Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Open

You’ve heard a lot about the CrossFit Games lately. There’s a leaderboard in the gym, we did all those freaking burpees last Friday, our gym even has a team of 8 listed online amongst 120,000 others.

But, you know…why should I care?

Like everything we do in the gym…it depends! Are you the koolaid-drinking, tall-sock wearing, Olympic shoe-owning, CrossFit all-star who’s only goal in life is to crush workouts and eat paleo? Then yeah, you probably should do the Open. Are you interested in comparing yourself to others around the world, just out of curiosity, and want to participate? Sure, do the Open. Or are you just focused on getting your workouts in each week, going home, and leaving it all on the gym floor? Maybe the Open isn’t for you!

Here’s what I’m trying to say: even though we’ll be doing the Open workouts every Friday for the next 4 weeks, doesn’t mean you should avoid those days. It will be just another workout, just like every other day you’re here. In fact, you might even enjoy it- since CrossFit headquarters creates the workouts, you might find something different than what you’d normally see here! Who knows!

You know our goal: give every person we meet a chance to change their lifestyle for the better. That has nothing to do with the CrossFit Games…it’s just fun this time of year!

Keep sticking to your goals, and we’ll support you 100% no matter what you choose to do.

Because frankly…this is the real reason we CrossFit.

And don’t forget about Snatchapalooza tomorrow! Come watch as 11 athletes take on a 1RM Snatch and the final workout from the 2011 Games. There will be burgers and beer afterward and everyone is invited!
