I’d like to introduce myself to my fellow CrossFitters, soon-to-be CrossFitters and, yes, even non-CrossFitters. My name is Jon Benton and most of you here at CrossFit Thornton know me as Chewie, The Bearded Guy, The Homeless CrossFitter or whatever else identifies me by the beard. (I am in fact not homeless).

Alright, introduction done. Let’s talk about what CrossFitis to me.

CrossFit is hard, very hard. In fact possibly the hardest thing I’ve done in well over 10 years. CrossFit is fun. Seeing what I can do and then seeing what I can really do when others are cheering me on and pushing me to go harder. It’s humbling. Seeing some of our top performers in the gym workout next to me inspires me and even invokes a lil bit of jealously. CrossFit has made me proud. Of who I was, who I am and who am going to be.

Despite the many other things CrossFit is and can be to the individual, it is a journey of rediscovery for myself. This extends beyond the veil of physical fitness. In the 10 years prior I was disconnected and not very social at all. This environment has helped me break out of that self imposed shell and get in the mindset of “do”. I was doing nothing so nothing happened. I took one small step start working out with the CrossFit Thornton team and ended up with a lot more than I bargained for and I couldn’t be happier.
