Name: Jon B.

Birthday: 06/05/1980

Occupation: Was a retail schlub now I’m in flight school…so Pilot!

What did you know about CrossFit before coming here? I knew one hundred percent absolutely nothing about CrossFit before coming to CrossFit Thornton.

Why did you try CrossFit Thornton? You see it was actually a crazy random happenstance. Coach Jeff came into my Barnes & Noble trying to give away a free month of some workout thingamajig to my manager but my manager saw through his games and was like “Wangsta please, try Jon. I’m not into that stuff.” At least I think that’s what he said. So Jeff charmed me right off my feet and into CrossFit Thornton. No seriously, he picked me up and said “You’re coming with me, it’s for your own good.”

How do you like our program? Love it! I’ve never experienced such a blending of strength and conditioning work. Oh and mobility, I’d never heard of that before CFT. I’ve since left the Thornton area to pursue flight school and have continued to do my own programming since I can’t afford a box while I’m here in JAX.

What is the best part of being at CF Thornton? The people here. From the coaches to the athletes everyone is invested in redefining the new American Lifestyle and they are all freaking pumped about it!

Has your life changed since being here? Well I’ve lost weight (see my intro pic), I’ve gained ability (it’s measurable, just look up my baseline times and progress on benchmark WODs) and I’ve met a slew of new people I would normally have never spoken to otherwise and gained several friends in the process. So yes it has changed. The down side is that I look good naked, but I’m just too darned tired for sex now!

If there were one movement you wish the coaches didn’t know, what would it be? Until I just got my double unders here in JAX I would have said that. Now that I have them down, I’ll have to go with… the duck walk. I really hate the duck walk.

If you could only do one movement for exercise for the rest of your life, what would you choose? I would squat. (You’re welcome Jeff and Lawrence) They paid me to say that. But seriously I would HBBS, LBBS, OHS, FS, Tempo Squat, Box Squat, Jump Squat, Bulgarian split squat, Kettle bell squat, Bottom to Bottom Tabata squats…and so on.

What are your goals for the next 3 months? My goal for the next 3 months without a box to visit is to work on my conditioning and body weight benchmarks.

Shout-outs? Jeff and Lawrence for manning up and opening a fantastic box in this subpar economy and not just running it, but doing what it takes to offer the best service possible for their clients.

Mark and Susan for putting up with me while I was in the ATP with them.

Jason Pardikes for always reminding me that I can go harder and faster. That’s what she said. Beat you to it!

Jeff Long for getting me a ride-a-long with the Boulder Fire Dept.

Ryan Harms and Andrei Lojek for competing with me and making the WODs just that much worse!

Carlos and Josie, my two homies from the start. Together we are members 1, 2, and 3. I’m so proud of them and how far they’ve come. They look 10 years younger!

Many others, but it would take a while so of course a big shout out to everyone at that box sweating it out and getting shit done.
